Matt Thayer’s fine work only bright spot remaining

I have been a loyal subscriber for 22 years. But, as content continues to decline, delivery is only by mail (sometimes not even same day), I cannot justify the expense to continue reading yesterday’s news. Recently, it changed format and only listed some of the former games, and only on the same date as the paper. If you only receive the paper in the afternoon (by mail), you want to know listings for tomorrow. Old listing format showed next day. To top it off today, April 15, the TV sports listing is for Saturday, April 13. Not very helpful. Any proofreaders there? Hope you will ...

Let Kihei senior lifeguard teach Deep Water Aerobics

For four months, we have written Maui County officials, asking them to resume our Kihei Deep Water class with our Kihei Senior Lifeguard. Last week, we held a protest at a Maui County Council budget meeting and at Kihei Aquatic Pool. The Kihei Senior Lifeguard has taught our class for over 10 years. In February, she resumed all her lifeguard duties and responsibilities, except being allowed to teach our class. Parks lack of transparency needs to be called out

The Maui County Parks and Recreation Department is gaslighting The Maui News concerning the status of Adult Deep Water Aerobics class at Kihei Aquatics Center. Everyone knows that this is an ongoing issue between the director, his pool manager, and the head lifeguard, who is the aerobics instructor. Birds’ feathers not ours to take for our caps

A “feather in one’s cap” is used to mean a proud accomplishment. But consider a kinder idiom, as there’s no pride in exploiting birds for their feathers. Eyewitness PETA investigations have exposed employees on goose farms pulling fistfuls of feathers out of birds, often causing bloody wounds as the geese shriek in pain and terror. On ostrich farms, birds are forced into stun boxes, their throats slit in full view of their flockmates. Turkeys, peacocks, and other birds also suffer terribly for humans to obtain their feathers.
