Iballa Moreno claims PWA series crown

Iballa Moreno of Spain won the Professional Windsurfers Association women’s world championship Sunday after her twin sister Daida Moreno bowed out of the double-elimination portion of the Starboard Severne Starboard Aloha Classic at Hookipa Beach Park in Kuau.

Iballa Moreno won the single-elimination title on Saturday.

On Sunday, Daida Moreno – who arrived on Maui as the series leader – did not get through her first heat of the day. She had also been unable to advance Saturday.

Still in contention in the double elimination are Paia’s Tiffany Ward and Japan’s Junko Nagoshi, who will face each other next, and single-elimination runner-up Fiona Wylde of Washington state.

In the men’s double elimination, Spain’s Victor Fernandez Lopez, second in the series standings, will meet Brazil’s Marcilio Browne, with the winner advancing to a matchup with France’s Thomas Traversa, the points leader, for the right to face single-elimination champion Morgan Noireaux of Haiku.

Starting at $4.62/week.
