PWA competition to remain on hold at Hookipa today

The Professional Windsurfers Association double eliminations in the NoveNove Maui Aloha Classic will remain on hold today at Hookipa Beach Park in Kuau.

The PWA series has not had competition since Sunday, though American Windsurfing Tour divisions have been contested. The PWA said on its Facebook page that it is waiting for a “new long period swell to hit over the weekend.”

In the PWA men’s division, Haiku’s Morgan Noireaux, the defending Hookipa champion, has won the single elimination. The other competitors in the hunt for this year’s event title include five from Maui – Robby Naish, Kai Lenny, Kevin Pritchard, Levi Siver and Bernd Roediger.

Germany’s Philip Koester, the series points leader, has been eliminated from the contest. Spain’s Victor Fernandez must win the event to claim the season championship.

Iballa Moreno of Spain has won the women’s single-elimination. The defending series champion and a two-time Hookipa winner is second in this year’s points standings, but will claim the title if twin sister Daida Moreno does not finish in at least third place in the double elimination.

Maui has five representatives in the field – Sarah Hauser, a single-elimination finalist, Tatiana Howard, Sam Bittner, Tiffany Ward and Robynne Riley.

Starting at $4.62/week.
