Lahaina’s Ocean Macedo competes during the second round of the World Surf League Jeep World Junior Championship today at Kiama, Australia. Macedo won the closely contested elimination heat 16.40-15.90 over Australian Reef Heazlewood to earn a spot in the third round. Later in the day, fellow Maui surfer Eli Hanneman lost his elimination heat 12.90-8.50 to California’s Tyler Gunter. Cody Young and, in the junior women’s division, Summer Macedo had already secured their third-round spots.
