Helekahi, Dragons keep season alive with win over Farmers
The Maui News
Arianna Helekahi drove in three runs to help the Hana High School softball team keep its season alive with a 20-17, eight-inning victory over Molokai in a Maui Interscholastic League Division II tournament semifinal Thursday afternoon in Hana.
The Dragons (2-7) pounded out 12 hits in the win, which puts them in today’s tournament final against regular-season champion Lanai (6-2).
Helekahi, who also earned the win in the circle by limiting the Farmers to four hits, had a double among her two hits and also scored two runs and drew three walks.
Also doubling for the Dragons were Briseis Keaulana, Kuahiwi Lind, Asa-Praise Kalalau and J-Lan Sinenci. Kalalau had two RBIs and two runs scored, and Keaulana also drove in two.
Natalia Pastrana drove in three runs and scored a run for Molokai (5-4).
The Farmers must now hope for a Pine Lasses win today, which would force a second-place playoff rematch with Hana on Saturday — the winner of that game would play the Kauai Interscholastic Federation runner-up for a state tournament spot. If the Dragons win today, they would play Lanai again on Saturday for the D-II overall title and end the Farmers’ season.
