Trotto captures seven golds at Masters national championship

Mary Trotto of Kihei captured seven gold medals in the women’s 75-79 division at the USATF Masters Track and Field National Championship, held Thursday through Sunday in Greensboro, N.C.
Trotto, 76, picked up individual gold in four events: shot put (7.15 meters), javelin throw (14.30), weight throw (8.43) and 200-meter long hurdles (67.01 seconds).
She joined TNT International Racing Club teammates Cora Hill, Angela Staab and Nancy Berger in setting three records in the relays at the 75-79 age division.
The four women ran the 4×800 relay in 21 minutes, 24.50 seconds, beating the old world record of 23:03.18. They also set American records in the 4×100 relay (1:42.27, previous record 1:53.16) and 4×400 relay (10:52.60, previous record 11:39.23).
Trotto also claimed silver in discus (15.90), pentathlon (1,243 points) and pole vault (1.00 meters), and placed third in hammer throw (18.8), 100-meter dash (22.23), 2,000 steeplechase (17:22.65) and triple jump (3.07).
