MIL baseball: Sabers, Bears finish off series sweeps to open season

The first week of Maui Interscholastic League Division I baseball concluded with teams finishing off three-game series sweeps Friday as Maui and Baldwin high schools picked up five-inning victories at Maehara Stadium in Wailuku.
Maui High got another strong pitching performance in defeating Lahainaluna 11-1.
Izaiah Koko allowed one hit over four innings without a walk. He recorded three strikeouts. Kekoa Tancayo then pitched a hitless fifth inning, striking out three and walking one as the Sabers improved to 3-0.
In their three games against the Lunas (0-3), the Sabers gave up just three hits, including none in the series opener Wednesday.
Nariyuki Dumlao drove in four runs and was 2 for 2 with a double. Aaron Omuro and EJ Ramones both also had 2-for-2 days at the plate, with Omuro scoring two runs and driving in two, and Ramones doubling and scoring a run. Trey Shimabukuro hit a triple.
In the first D-I game of the day at Maehara, Kade Fujioka tossed four scoreless innings as the Bears shut out King Kekaulike 10-0.
Fujioka gave up two hits and a walk while striking out four for Baldwin (3-0), which didn’t allow a run during their series against Na Alii (0-3). Kaden Anderson closed out the win with a scoreless fifth, walking one while fanning two.
Kaleb Gaoiran was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Bears. Christian Dominno tripled and drove in a run, and Isaac Imamura and Anu Chaves each hit a double.
Cade Yamada batted 2 for 2 with a double for King Kekaulike.
In Division II play at Maehara Stadium, Jimmy Anton recorded 12 strikeouts in leading Lanai to its first win of the season, 4-1 over Hana on Friday afternoon.
Anton allowed one run on three hits, four walks and a hit batter in 6 2/3 innings. AJ Sigrah got the final out as the Pine Lads improved to 1-3.
Sigrah was 2 for 3 from the plate with an RBI and run scored.
The Dragons fell to 0-5.
In Kaunakakai, Kian Toledo tripled and drove in three runs to help Molokai top Seabury Hall 9-2.
Miken Loo had two RBIs, Kilinahe Puhi tripled and drove in a run, and Heath Lopez was 2 for 4 for the undefeated Farmers (5-0).
Five Molokai pitchers combined to give up two runs on two hits, four walks and a pair of hit batters.
The Spartans fell to 3-1.
