No. 3 Rainbow Warriors outlast No. 5 Anteaters in 5-set thriller

The third-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team outlasted No. 5 UC Irvine 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 17-25, 15-13 to win the Outrigger Volleyball Invitational on Sunday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Spyros Chakas had 17 kills and eight digs before leaving late with an apparent knee injury, and Alakai Todd had 13 kills for the Rainbow Warriors (17-1). Kurt Nusterer had nine blocks — including three crucial stuffs in the decisive fifth set — and Keoni Thiim had five kills, five aces, 12 digs, five assists and two blocks.
Hilir Henno blasted 36 kills to lead the Anteaters (13-6).
UH next begins Big West play with a huge series at No. 2 Long Beach State on Friday and Saturday.
