Maui High, Baldwin off to good start in pre-season
The Baldwin High Bears and Maui High Sabers secured wins in their preseason football games last week, and Maui High will see if it can make it win number two as it plays Iolani High School on Oahu at 3 p.m. Aug. 16.
The Bears defeated the Hilo Vikings at Wong Stadium on the Big Island, 17-13. The Sabers defeated Kealakehe, 21-6.
In other games this week, the Lahainaluna Lunas play against Kapolei on Oahu at 5 p.m. Aug. 16 after losing to Waianae last week, 42-21.
In Division II football, Kamehameha Maui plays against Radford, after losing to Damien last week 33-17 and the Na Alii of King Kekaulike will play against Morrow Bay, after winning against Honokaa on the Big Island last week, 9-7.
Maui High Sabers quarterback Kahlen Boteilho-Doughtery threw for 227 yards and rushed for 89 yards to help lead his team against Kealakehe 21-6 on Aug. 9 on Maui.
The Sabers team had a strong passing attack with receivers Jonah Cariaga, Daravon White, and Noah Shepherd catching a total of 78, 69 and 67 yards and averaging more than 11 yards a reception.
Micah Barut averaged 5.6 yards a run, carrying the ball 11 times for 62 yards.
