Makawao Hongwanji will be holding a five-part online study class on Jodo Shinshu Buddhism through May. The class is titled “The Tradition of Shinran Shonin: Introduction to Jodo Shinshu Buddhism.” Shinran is the founder of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism. Each hourlong session will be offered twice a week at 6 p.m. Thursdays (Thursday, May 14, 21, 28) and 11 a.m. Saturdays (May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30). The classes will be offered on Zoom. Temple services to be livestreamed

Makawao Hongwanji Mission is holding Facebook live broadcasts of Sunday services. The services also can be viewed later on YouTube, said the Rev. Kerry Kiyohara, resident minister of the temple. He is livestreaming services from his residence. Buddhist study classes are offered via video-conferencing. Health emergency closes temple Makawao Hongwanji Buddhist Temple is closed until further notice in compliance with the declaration of a public health emergency by the County of Maui and the State of Hawaii.
