Hale Kau Kau’s 10,000th day
First photo: The kitchen at Hale Kau Kau was abuzz Wednesday afternoon as volunteers from the community and the Grand Wailea swiftly plated 84 meals for homebound residents in South Maui. Hale Kau Kau, which offers free hot meals daily out of the St. Theresa Church kitchen, celebrated its 10,000th consecutive day of service on Wednesday. Since it first started on Aug. 11, 1991, Hale Kau Kau has provided more than 1.5 million meals.
Second photo: Plates are loaded with turkey, mashed potatoes, bread, fruit and veggies, all ready to be delivered to 84 homebound residents throughout South Maui. Volunteer drivers deliver the meals to homebound clients seven days a week, while others can come to the kitchen window to pick up a plate. On Wednesday, 72 meals were served at the window.
