Bail reduced in firearms case
Bail has been reduced to $10,000 for a man charged with stealing eight firearms from a Haiku residence.
Patrick Keene Jr., 49, who gave no local address, has pleaded not guilty to eight counts of first-degree theft. The theft of four bolt-action rifles, two pistols, a revolver and a semi-automatic rifle occurred Nov. 6, according to information filed in 2nd Circuit Court.
Keene was arrested last week, according to police records.
During a court hearing Tuesday, Keene asked to be released from jail on supervision. The prosecution opposed the request.
Deputy Prosecutor Ryan Teshima said Keene stole the eight firearms from a gun safe and other property, including a cellphone, after getting into an argument with the caretaker of the Haiku residence and being kicked out of the house.
“Due to the allegations, he represents a danger to the community,” Teshima said.
Judge Peter Cahill reduced Keene’s bail from $20,000 to $10,000. Keene was ordered to stay away from the Haiku residence and to have no contact with the caretaker and owner of the property.
An April 1 trial is set for Keene.
