State AFL-CIO still distributing food to workers
Even though an agreement has been reached to open the federal government for three weeks, the Hawaii State AFL-CIO will continue its “Feeding the Feds” program for impacted workers.
Food will be available for federal workers who have been impacted by the partial federal shutdown from noon to 4 p.m. Monday at the
ILWU hall at 896 Lower Main St. in Wailuku.
The program also will be available Feb. 4, 11 and 19.
Participants must present their federal ID to receive food. Items will be distributed for as long as supplies last, according to a news release.
Many Hawaii unions, led by the Hawaii State AFL-CIO, have partnered with food banks across the state and Island Energy to provide relief for federal workers.
Those wanting to partner in the effort may do so by making a donation to Hawaii Employees Lifeline Program, or H.E.L.P., 345 Queen St., Suite 500, Honolulu 96813 or contact the Hawaii State AFL-CIO office by email at LCSP@hawaflcio.org.
