Not all homeless people can conform to rules
A hallucination is simultaneously hearing 11 talk shows. Obsessive compulsive disorder requires repetitive actions to stay safe. Being manic depressive one day you can conquer the world, the next its too painful to move your arm.
What if you were born addicted? Maybe as a child you were sexually and physically abused or raised as a foster child and dumped on the street at 18 with no life skills. It makes it difficult to successfully navigate life.
An offer for transitional housing that requires compliance with requirements that you are incapable of meeting is not an option. If I accept housing, my rapist, abusive partner will locate me. I will be separated from the street family that has kept me safe.
One reason for the increase of our unlucky houseless friends in the industrial park is the county decision to terminate legal camping at Kanaha Park. They had no other place to settle. Our houseless friends may smell because there are no toilets, therefore people soil themselves. I don’t suffer from a debilitating disease nor did I suffer childhood abuse nor delayed development problems affecting my ability to live safely with others. Imprisoning people for refusing to do what we say is not a good idea.
Let’s start with love.
