Leebrick Nakama

Leebrick George Nakama was born in Lahaina on January 8, 1950, to Jane and Sadao Nakama.

He attended Wailuku Elementary, Iao Intermediate School, Lahainaluna for two years and graduated from Baldwin High. He received his bachelor's degree in education from Idaho State University and achieved his Master's degree in education from Northern Arizona University. He spent two years in Ghana, Africa, while serving in the Peace Corps, then began his career as a school counselor in Guam, where he also coached basketball and volleyball.

Moved back to Maui to start his family and raised two amazing children. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, scuba diving, surfing, spearfishing, golf, and tennis.

Throughout his career, he was able to experience different aspects throughout the Department of Education at various schools, along with Lahainaluna Boarding, Adult Education, and retired as a counselor from Maui High.

Predeceased by his parents, Lee passed away on November 16th, 2023 in Hendersonville, Tennesee, leaving behind his wife, Irene; son, Lenn (Amy) and daughter, Nicole (Brian); five grandchildren, Isla (14), Regan (12), Reylee (6), Wren (5), and Ryan (4); three brothers; Gary (Susan), Randy (Michelle), and David (Sue), along with his nieces, nephew, and cousins.

Services are being held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4th, 2024, at Grace Bible Church (635 Hina Ave, Kahului, HI 96732), by his children and brothers.
