Daniel “Danny” Carmichael
Daniel (Danny) Carmichael “Pops”, 90, of Ahupua'a Ke'anae – Wailuanui, Maui, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was under the care of Hospice Maui and the Veterans Home Care.
Danny was born in Honolulu, O'ahu on March 12, 1934. He was raised in Wahiawa however he called Hale'iwa his home. He attended Wahiawa Elementary and Leilehua High School but dropped out and joined the Marine Corps on January 18, 1952. He fought in the Korean War in September 1952. He was later discharged in 1955 and reenlisted a few months in 1956. Danny became a Mason tender in Fontana and continued in Pleasant Hill, CA. Many of his contractors were amazed by his strength and his professionalism. In January 1980, Danny became a business representative for the Laborer's Union Local 368. He was a generous person who assisted numerous members on Maui. He happily retired in 1995.
On November 22, 1958, Danny married 'Awapuhi Ka'auamo in Las Vegas. They resided in Los Angeles, Fontana, and Pleasant Hill California before moving to Maui permanently in 1972.
Danny is survived by his spouse 'Awapuhi Ka'auamo, his daughters Lehuanani (Roman Urayanza) Carmichael and Leinani (Jacob Jr.) Kana, his son Kaniela Kipapa, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his 2 daughters Leimomi (Michael) Johnson and Lani Carmichael, 3 grandsons Kalawai'anui Carmichael, Na'ilima & Kalamaku Kana, and 1 granddaughter Kilipue Magarifuji. Danny acknowledges Kolt Kamakawai Kahalekai as his hanai grandson.
Funeral visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului; service begins at noon with cremation to follow. 'Ohana requests leis in place of flower arrangements.
