Lakota Lee of Kihei Charter won the Maui Interscholastic League individual championship after shooting a 226 in the three-round tournament. Among the girls, Maui Prep’s Ava Kawahara won the championship with a 12-shot advantage over the second-place finisher. The MIL individual championship golf tournament concluded Saturday at Makena Golf and Beach Club. Roots School receives $10K grant for literacy program

Roots School in Haiku has received a $10,000 grant from the Atherton Family Foundation to support its English Language Arts program and expand early literacy efforts. School officials said the funding will be used to strengthen classroom instruction and provide additional in-school support for students needing extra help with reading.
