Committee meeting on South Maui Community Plan recessed to 9 a.m. Wednesday; separate agenda canceled
The Disaster Recovery, International Affairs and Planning Committee canceled Wednesday's separate meeting agenda to reconvene Monday’s meeting at 9 a.m. and allow the committee to continue deliberations on Section 4, “Implementation and Monitoring,” of the draft South Maui Community Plan, Maui County Council member Tamara Paltin announced Tuesday. Flood watch issued for Maui County through Saturday
A flood watch is in effect for Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe from Wednesday afternoon through 6 p.m. Saturday as a developing tropical system approaches the state. The National Weather Service said heavy rain is likely, although the system’s track remains uncertain. Windward Maui and the windward and southeastern portions of Hawaii Island are considered most likely to receive heavy rain, but very high rainfall rates and flash flooding are possible throughout the watch area. Meetings planned on Maui SMA boundary
The Maui County Planning Department will hold public meetings Sept. 23 and Sept. 24 as it assesses the Special Management Area boundary for the island of Maui. The project will develop recommendations for a scientifically and culturally based inland SMA boundary that responds to projected environmental and climate changes while balancing environmental protection with permitting and review requirements. Free Medicare seminar set for Oct. 3 in Kahului
A free Medicare 101 Community Seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 3 in the Haleakala Ballroom at the Courtyard by Marriott Maui Kahului Airport, 532 Keolani Place. Workshop for Lahaina commercial property owners set for Sept. 30
The Maui County Office of Recovery will hold its third Commercial Property Workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 30 in Morgado Hall at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului. Commercial property owners, architects, engineers and business owners in Lahaina’s historic districts may speak with county staff about permitting, reconstruction and other rebuilding challenges.
