Student musicians in the King Kekaulike Jazz Band 1 groove to a tune alongside professional horn musicians from the band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the culmination of an hourlong Horn Clinic on Monday afternoon. Five members of the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy band are shown performing with the high school jazz band: Glen Marhevka and Tony Bonsera on trumpet (back row, left and third from left, respectively); Alex Henderson on trombone (middle row obscured); and Karl Hunter (front row, glasses) and Andy Rowley (first row, far right) on saxophone. They shared pointers on musicianship, horn-playing and being part of a performing team. The Horn Clinic was organized by the Maui Arts & Cultural Center as part of its Artists in the Community outreach program that brings performing artists off the stage and into the community. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, a jazz/swing band based in Los Angeles, performed a concert in the MACC’s Castle Theater on Tuesday.
