Free smoke alarms will be installed in Central Maui by the Red Cross on Saturday.

Volunteers also will be sharing fire safety information and offering on-the-spot smoke alarm battery replacement.

The Red Cross is accepting appointment requests by residents. Call the Maui Red Cross office at 244-0051, ext. 0, to leave a message that includes a name and best contact phone number. A volunteer will follow up by text or phone to schedule the appointment.

Smoke alarm installations are by appointment only.

“Home fires can be a deadly threat because they happen so quickly,” said Michele Blair, Maui Red Cross county director. “We are urging Maui residents to ensure that they have working smoke alarms in their homes.”
