Nobody rains on Makawao Parade

With a theme of “Wild West Makawao Style,” the 54th annual Makawao Rodeo Parade drew a large crowd of spectators and a long line of entries Saturday. While some past parades have endured everything from intermittent rain to showers, this edition was hot and sunny.

Parade honors were announced later Saturday and included: Best Parade Horse — Kamie Davis; Best Mounted Rider — Rodeo Queen Lilyana Namakana’alohawahilani Jaylee Ferguson; Best Mounted Group (2-5) — Grand Marshal Wayne Asue; Best Mounted Group (6+) — Maui Nui Akama Pa’u Riders; Best Mounted Keiki — Maui Keiki Pa’u Unit; Best Musical Entry — Pacific Fleet Marching Band; Best Commercial Entry — Goodfellow Bros.; Best Representation of Theme — Dr. John Enriques; Most Patriotic Entry — Daughters of the American Revolution; and Most Unusual Entry — Maui Shrine Club.

Many of the participants also entered the 54th rodeo, which wrapped up its four-day run Sunday afternoon at Oskie Rice Arena in Olinda.
