Malama given $119,234 grant
Malama Family Recovery Center has been awarded a grant of $119,234 from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to support its Early Learning Center over a two-year period.
The Early Learning Center serves the children of women participating in Malama Family Recovery Center’s Therapeutic and Sober Living program. It provides a learning environment and a wide range of learning activities for this high-risk and high-needs population, a Malama news release said.
The Early Learning Center allows mothers to focus on their treatment and participate in classes, knowing that their children are well cared for and in a safe environment, the news release said.
Founded in 1990, Malama Family Recovery Center, also known as Malama Na Makua A Keiki, provides addiction/substance abuse treatment services to pregnant and parenting women and their children on Maui.
“Our clients are always grateful to learn that we have safe, educational child care for their children in our ELC, and this support from OHA will ensure the quality of our program continues” said Jud Cunningham, CEO of Aloha House, the umbrella organization for Malama.
