Groundbreaking for a new Kula Park playground is set for 9:30 a.m. Jan. 29, which will close part of the park until Oct. 30 for the work.

Following the groundbreaking, a portion of the park will be closed to the public for construction, which includes the installation of new playground equipment, fall surfacing and an American Disabilities Act accessible pathway connecting the upper parking lot to the restroom and playground areas.

The groundbreaking ceremony is open to the public and will be held at the park on Calasa Road and Kula Highway.

The department asks the public to remain outside the construction area.
