Permits for beach weddings are back
Social distancing rules remain active

The state Wiki Permits online system for commercial activities on state beaches, including weddings and vow renewals, is issuing permits again, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources said Thursday.
There are COVID-19-related restrictions including:
• No group shall exceed 10 people.
• Members of the group who not part of the same household will need to comply with social distancing requirements.
• The beach or sand area only may be used a half-hour before sunrise to a half-hour after sunset.
• All standard terms and conditions of Wiki Permits need to be complied with, including restrictions on placement of accessories, structures and devices on the beach.
All other state and county emergency restrictions need to be followed. For more information, visit dlnr.ehawaii.gov/permits/welcome.html.
In other COVID-19 developments, Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino said Thursday that the checkpoints blocking access to East Maui to only residents have been put up again and will stay up at least until the end of June. After consulting with Gov. David Ige and state Sen. J. Kalani English, the mayor said there will be staffing by National Guard until that time.
There is a roadblock in the Twin Falls area in Haiku and another one along Piilani Highway near Ulupalakua Ranch being manned by Maui police and Guard members. The roadblocks were down earlier this week due to staffing issues.
Also, a county spokesman said Thursday that residents at condos can use their pools and community barbecues, while practicing social distancing. The Maui News received a call from a resident asking about the use of the facilities in light of recent openings of county pools for exercise.
