Strong winds, high surf persist
A wind advisory is in effect for Maui, Molokai and Kahoolawe through 6 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.
East winds of 20 to 30 mph with localized gusts up to 50 mph are expected.
Winds this strong are capable of downing temporary structures and trees and causing localized power outages, the weather service warned.
Drivers are advised to use extra caution.
Meanwhile, a high surf advisory for east-facing shores of Molokai and Maui has been extended to 6 a.m. Monday as strong trade winds continue to produce advisory-level surf.
The weather service predicted waves of 8 to 12 feet.
