The deadline to apply for federal emergency grants related to the Kona low storm in December is Thursday, the state reminded Maui County and Oahu organizations on Tuesday.

On Feb. 15, President Joe Biden signed a major disaster declaration covering damage from the storm, flooding and landslides Dec. 5-10. Governments, including special taxing districts, and private nonprofits that perform government-like services in Maui and Honolulu counties may apply.

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency is coordinating with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to manage the Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation grants and applications.
