About 2.5 acres were scorched Wednesday afternoon near the Lahaina Bypass after agricultural equipment apparently sparked a fire in the area, according to the Maui Fire Department.
Hokiokio Place was closed above the bypass for a short time to allow crews to operate safely along the roadway.
Crews received the call at 3:18 p.m. and were able to bring the fire under control before 4 p.m.
The fire was apparently sparked by agricultural equipment being operated in a lot adjacent to the highway, according to the Fire Department.
Crews were able to quickly contain the fire and keep it from moving upslope to homes, the department added.
