Everett and Charlene Brown talk with Kekuhaupio Akana at a sign waving reminding people not to drink and drive. About 50 people, including police traffic officers, joined in the event Friday afternoon on Kaahumanu Avenue fronting Kahului Shopping Center. “We’re happy to support families who have lost loved ones to impaired drivers,” said police traffic commander Lt. Kenneth Kihata, who reminded the public not to drink and drive. The Browns organized the annual holiday sign waving for the fourth year, after their 19-year-old daughter, Hannah, was killed in a crash caused by a drunken driver going the wrong way on Kuihelani Highway in 2019. Akana has been appointed managing director by Mayor-elect Richard Bissen.
