Hana Hou Music Program to begin Aug. 25
This year’s Hana Hou Music Program’s will take place from Aug. 25 to Sept. 5, and will feature a number of free musical opportunities for the Maui community.
According to organizers, the Hana Hou Music Program was founded by Kisa Uradomo, a violinist from Kula. For many years after leaving Maui to pursue her musical studies in college, she dreamed of returning home and giving back to the community that helped make her into the musician she is today.
In 2022, her dream became a reality when Uradamo and her team founded the Hana Hou Music Program.
The program’s mission is to develop, advocate and provide music education in Maui and to serve as a free musical resource to the community regardless of background, artistic ability or financial circumstance.
Uradomo graduated from Maui’s King Kekaulike High School and was one of only two musicians from Hawaii ever selected to play in the National Youth Orchestra of the U.S., a program of the educational arm of Carnegie Hall. She is pursuing a master’s degree in violin performance at the University of Michigan.
The Hana Hou Music Program is an annual two-week season where teaching artists present concerts for the Maui community, as well as visit Pre K-12 schools to give free educational presentations to students, teachers or concert attendees.
The program’s leaders hope to continue to expand their impact across Maui by visiting more schools and performing at new venues. For more about the program and a schedule of events, go to www.hanahoumusicprogram.org or email info@hanahoumusicprogram.org.
