Wailuku woman killed in Kahului collision identified

A pedestrian who was struck and killed Wednesday night on Kaahumanu Avenue in Kahului has been identified as Lynette Kealoha, 61, of Wailuku. The collision occurred at about 9:43 p.m. as Kealoha was walking north across Kaahumanu Avenue outside a marked crosswalk, according to the Maui Police Department. Police said Kealoha was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox traveling east in the inner lane near the intersection with South Wakea Avenue. Kealoha was pronounced dead at the scene. Volunteers sought for Haleakala backcountry trip Oct. 9-12

The Friends of Haleakala National Park is seeking volunteers for a three-night backcountry service trip in Haleakala National Park from Oct. 9-12. Participants will hike more than 21 miles and stay at Paliku Patrol Cabin. Projects may include removing invasive plants, collecting native seeds, clearing trails and maintaining the cabin.
