East Maui Holomua Kakou gatherings postponed

Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen’s annual Holomua Kakou talk-story gathering and drop-in center scheduled for Monday and Tuesday in Hana have been postponed because of the potential for severe weather, the Maui County Office of Public Affairs announced Friday. New dates will be announced at a later time. The mayor had planned a community talk story Monday evening at Helene Hall Community Center. The Hawaii Department of Health has confirmed two additional travel-related cyclosporiasis cases in Hawaii residents, bringing the state’s total this year to three. The two people, who live in the same household, traveled together internationally and to a U.S. state reporting an outbreak. Health officials determined both infections were acquired outside Hawaii. The department said there is no evidence of locally acquired infections or community transmission in the state. Central Maui residents invited to ‘āina stewardship session

Central Maui residents are invited to a Pili Nā Moku listening and visioning session from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the University of Hawaii Maui College. Hosted by the University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program, the session will bring together residents, community organizations and cultural practitioners to discuss priorities for protecting Central Maui’s natural and cultural resources.
