Bissen campaign plans Hana Hou Night

The Bissen 2026 campaign will host Hana Hou Night at 5:30 p.m. July 15 at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku with doors opening at 5 p.m. The campaign event will feature food, local entertainment and opportunities for attendees to meet with supporters of Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen’s re-election effort. The event is open to all ages. A suggested donation of $30 applies to attendees 18 and older. Schatz: State will get $24M to replace bridges on Hana Highway

The Hawaii Department of Transportation will receive $24 million in federal funding to rehabilitate and replace approximately six bridges within the Hana Highway Historical District, according to U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz. “This funding will help modernize our aging infrastructure and help people in East Maui get to where they need to go,” Schatz said in a news release. The release said that as a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Schatz has worked to ensure Hawaii receives its fair share of federal funding to improve infrastructure statewide.

Go Green recycling event July 18 in West Maui

West Maui residents may dispose of bulky recyclable items for free during a Go Green Recycling event from 8 a.m. to noon July 18 at 300 Lahainaluna Road near the Pioneer Mill smokestack. Participants should enter from Kuhua Street. Drop-off appointments are required. Accepted items include air conditioners, lead-acid batteries, washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, refrigerators, stoves, water heaters, tires, scrap metal and electronics such as televisions, computers, printers, copiers and monitors.
