MPD plans impaired driving enforcement for holiday weekend
Maui police will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols at various locations during the Fourth of July weekend. The enforcement campaign will begin July 3 and continue through the holiday weekend, according to MPD. Police said officers will take a zero-tolerance approach to impaired driving as part of an effort to reduce crashes and promote compliance with traffic laws. Hawaiian Electric to restore steel poles on Maui
Hawaiian Electric will begin work the week of July 6 to restore 32 steel poles along critical transmission lines on Maui Veterans Highway, Pulehu Road and Dairy Road. The work is part of the utility’s ongoing effort to harden the island’s electrical grid. It is expected to continue through the end of November. No service interruptions are expected. Hawaii patients spent more than $230 million on cancer care outside the state from 2021 to 2023, according to a new University of Hawaii Cancer Center study that researchers say underscores the financial strain created when patients must travel for specialized treatment.
