Kahului man arrested in connection with Hoʻokipa-area robbery

A 34-year-old Kahului man was arrested Friday in connection with an armed robbery reported earlier this week near Hoʻokipa Beach Park, according to Maui police. Police said the man was arrested at about 2:20 p.m. on a $100,000 warrant related to the June 10 robbery. He also had additional warrants totaling $320,000 and remained in police custody Friday. The robbery was reported at about 5:27 a.m. Wednesday on Hana Highway near the Hoʻokipa area. Nā Keiki O Emalia’s annual Emalia’s Table fundraiser is underway, with an online auction open through June 19 to support grief services for Maui children and teens who have lost a loved one. Makawao Avenue overnight closures scheduled for waterline repairs

The Maui County Department of Water Supply will close a section of Makawao Avenue between Baldwin Avenue and Makani Road overnight from June 16-18 to conduct waterline repair work. The closure will allow local traffic only from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on June 16, 17 and 18. During the closure, through traffic will be detoured via Olinda Road, Hanamu Road, Meha Road and Kealaloa Avenue. Brief interruptions to water service may occur during the work period. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and use caution when traveling in the area.
