Energy bill assistance applications open for Maui residents

Maui County residents who need help paying their electric bills can apply for assistance through the Hawaii Home Energy Assistance Program during the month of June. According to Hawaiian Electric, the program provides a one-time credit to eligible lower-income households to help offset energy costs. Applications for the annual energy credit program will be accepted through June 30. On Maui, applications are processed by Maui Economic Opportunity. Marine debris cleanup June 5 at Baldwin Beach

The community is invited to help remove marine debris from 4 to 5:30 p.m. June 5 at Kapukaulua (Baldwin Beach) in Paia in observance of World Environment Day. Hosted by the University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program, the Maui Surfrider Foundation and project partners, the event will include a beach cleanup as well as opportunities to learn about dune restoration, coastal resilience efforts and ongoing stewardship activities. Aunties Beach Day will be June 7 in Kahului

All “aunties” are invited to attend a fun morning of ocean and beach time to try new sports or improve at ones they are familiar with, including windsurfing, paddle boarding and Winging. County seeks public input on proposed disaster recovery plan amendment

Maui County is accepting public comments through July 1 on proposed changes to its Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery Action Plan related to the Strategic Voluntary Mitigation Buyout Program.
