East Maui Water Authority accepting grant applications

From Aug. 12 to Oct. 1, the East Maui Water Authority will accept applications for grants supporting watershed restoration, education, research and cultural knowledge-sharing benefiting Huelo, Honomanū, Keʻanae and Nāhiku. Individuals, nonprofits and for-profit businesses may apply. The East Maui Water Authority has $150,000 available for fiscal year 2027 grants. Three Maui County students receive Bayer life sciences scholarships

Three Maui County graduating seniors are among 10 students statewide to receive the 2026 Bayer Hawaii Life Sciences Scholarship. The Maui recipients to receive $1,000 scholarships include Sloane Jucker of Maui Preparatory Academy, Kody Manegdeg of King Kekaulike High School and Jasmyn Yun of Maui High School. The scholarship program is open to graduating seniors from Hawaii high schools who plan to attend an accredited college or university and pursue a discipline related to the life sciences. Kekaulike Avenue utility work to affect traffic

Hawaiian Electric crews will replace a utility pole along Kekaulike Avenue between Puanani Place and Haleakala Highway from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 10-12. The makai lane between mile markers 6 and 7 will be closed during the work, along with the bike lane, shoulder and sidewalk. Flaggers will direct traffic, and motorists should expect delays. No service interruption is expected.
