Maui County officials are urging residents and visitors to prepare for hurricane season, which began Sunday and runs through Nov. 30. The National Weather Service is forecasting an above-normal season in the Central Pacific basin, including Hawaii, with a 70% chance of above-normal activity. Maui County residents who need help paying their electric bills can apply for assistance through the Hawaii Home Energy Assistance Program during the month of June. According to Hawaiian Electric, the program provides a one-time credit to eligible lower-income households to help offset energy costs.
