The Maui County Department of Finance is planning to auction off properties that have been delinquent on their taxes for three or more years and have received their final notice of a sale. The tax sale will be at the Kihei Community Center, 303 E. Lipoa St. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. with the auction beginning at 9:30 a.m. The sale will continue on May 20, if necessary. As of May 7, there are four properties scheduled to be sold. John Weems, 75, of North Carolina was last seen snorkeling off Kaanapali Beach. He was reported missing Friday afternoon by a concerned family member after he didn’t return from his planned snorkeling trip. Ten schools on Maui will offer free summer meals to children ages 18 and younger on weekdays from June 9 through July 17. The Hawaii State Department of Education has announced that 74 public schools will offer the free summer meals through the USDA’s Seamless Summer Option program. Children do not need to be enrolled in public school.
