Alvan Takatani, 63, of Kahului, died on April 29, 2022 at his home under hospice care. Services will be held at Wailuku Hongwanji Mission on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 10:00 am. Mr. Takatani was born on May 5, 1958 in Wailuku, Maui. He was the son of Mr. Goro and Mrs. Katherine Takatani. Alvan is survived by daughter, Isa Takatani; wife, Sonyong Takatani; and brother, Randal Takatani. He was an electrician. Gerald Yokouchi of Wailuku passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2022 surrounded by his family. Those who knew him will remember his soft-spoken manner and kind heart. He loved to golf & socialize at the 19th hole and of course trips to Las Vegas. More importantly he loved his family, and was a fantastic husband, dad, uncle and friend. Betsy Matsumura, 99, of Makawao, died April 04, 2022, at Hale Makua in Kahului. Mrs. Matsumura retired from First Hawaiian Bank after many years. She enjoyed volunteering at the church and playing hanafuda. She was predeceased by her husband, Yuwao Matsumura, siblings Kenneth Kato and Laura Sasaki. Tokio “Jack” Kakiuchi of Kahului passed away on April 22, 2022 at his home under the care of Hospice Maui. He was born on July 16, 1925 in Paia, Maui. “Jack” retired from Maui Land and Pineapple Company after more that 40 years of service. He is predeceased by his wife Shizue “Betty” Kakiuchi. Our dad, grandpa and great grandpa, Kenji Kawaguchi, 94, passed away peacefully on the evening of April 2, 2022. He was born on Dec 25, 1927, in Makawao, to Rikiichi and Shizuko Kawaguchi, the third oldest of ten children. After the family moved to Lahaina, he attended Kamehameha III Elementary and Lahainaluna High School. Upon graduating from high school, he worked at the pineapple cannery for about a year before de-ciding to attend the University of Hawaii Manoa, on Oahu.
