Parents best resource for teaching empathy

I do not disagree with the author of the letter which encouraged schools to teach subjects which “should include civics and sportsmanship” (Letters to the editor, Dec. 4).

Teachers want to do these things. Sometimes, we are allowed to.

In addition, I’d recommend caring, involved parents as the best resource for growing children who are empathetic, thoughtful, kind and considerate. Fruit does not fall far from the tree.
