Na Alii fall to Warriors 6-0 in state semifinals
The King Kekaulike High School girls soccer team lost to Kamehameha Kapalama 6-0 in a Queen’s Medical Center Division I State Championship semifinal on a rainy Friday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Oahu.
Kaila Kalua had a hat trick for the top-seeded Warriors (12-2-0).
From the start, Kamehameha had all the offensive momentum. The Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion broke through with a goal by Kalua in the 15th minute. Carley Park (29th minute) and Leila Kahoano (35th) added goals to give the Warriors a 3-0 halftime lead. They also had a goal waived off due to an offsides call.
Kamehameha quickly built upon its lead early in the second half, getting a goal from D’awncey Jones-Black in the 45th minute. Kalua then scored in the 49th and 56th minutes to cap the scoring.
King Kekaulike (9-2-2), the fourth-seeded champion of the Maui Interscholastic League, was playing in the state semifinals for the first time since 2009 against Kamehameha Kapalama — the Warriors won that match, too.
Na Alii will take on Konawaena in the third-place game today at 3 p.m.
The Warriors face Campbell in the championship at 7 p.m.
Seabury Hall, the lone MIL representative in the Division II tournament, will play Waianae in the consolation final.
