HI Performance Athletics lifters victorious at states

Six Maui weightlifters from HI Performance Athletics won their divisions at the Hawaii State Championships held last weekend in Honolulu.

Tiffani Lee was named the Outstanding Female Lifter after her first-place finish in the women’s 55-kilogram division. She posted a 71-kg snatch and 93-kg clean and jerk for a total of 164.

Also winning women’s divisions were Kaylee Yagi (49-kg, 30 snatch-37 clean and jerk–67 total) and Hannah Aiwohi (71, 68-90–158). Men’s winners included Robert Young (55, 47-65–112), Eric Chang (67; 80-98–178) and Dan Kendrick Dumo (73, 94-115–209).

Yagi (girls 13 and under) and Young (boys 13 and under) set Hawaii state records, as did Hanalei Kauhaahaa (boys 14-15) and Bertram Kikuchi (men 40-44).

Kauhaahaa placed sixth in the men 89 division (77-105–182) while Kikuchi was third in the men 102 division (81-107–188).

Other men’s placers were Kuola Watson (second in 55, 35-55–90), Kolby Kikuchi (third in 73, 87-106–193) and Ryan Towata (second in 81, 70-95–165).

Women’s placers included Loretta Kikuchi (second in 55, 58-70–128), Oudlay Tom (seventh in 55, 35-44–79), Valerie Matsunaga (second in 49, 24-38–62) and Lia Vanderpoel (third in 76, 50-65–115).

The Maui athletes helped HI Performance Athletics successfully defend its state team championship with 194 points.
