The Maui News
Four girls and four boys from the Maui Interscholastic League received top seeds for this week’s Texaco/HHSAA Wrestling State Championships.
Leading the MIL girls into Friday’s and Saturday’s competition at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu is Nanea Estrella. The Lahainaluna High School senior will attempt to become just the second MIL wrestler to win four state titles; she is the No. 1 seed at 132 pounds.
Other girls top seeds are defending state champion Shannon Jaramillo of Lahainaluna (184), Baldwin’s Shayna Kamaka — the 2019 champion at 155 who is now competing at 168 — and the Bears’ Tyeisha Takamori at 145.
No. 2 seeds include two-time state champions Jahnea Miguel (127) and Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp (138) of Baldwin, the Lunas’ Alicia Frank (117) and Kamehameha Maui’s Ashlee Palimoo (122).
In the boys division, Baldwin’s Coby Ravida seeks to cap his high school career with a third state title — after previously winning at 106 and 113, he is the No. 1 seed at 120.
His brother, Tobey Ravida, is the top seed at 113. Also receiving No. 1 seeds are Lahainaluna’s Jesse Dudoit (145) and Kamehameha Maui’s Kanoa Aruda-Starwood (160).
The Lunas’ Kanoa Lanoza is seeded second at 126 pounds, and the Warriors’ Zachary Genobia is No. 2 at 182.
Opening rounds begin at 10 a.m. on Friday. On Saturday, semifinals are set for 10 a.m. and finals — which will be televised live on OC16 — begin at 3:30 p.m.
