Calibuso-Kwee earns spot in US Girls’ Junior

Wailuku’s Lana Calibuso-Kwee tied for first place in the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship qualifying tournament on the Big Island on Saturday, earning a spot in next month’s national event.

Calibuso-Kwee, a recent graduate of Baldwin High School who is headed to Texas A&M, fired a 1-over 71 on the Mauna Lani North Course to finished tied with Leia Chung of Wahiawa, Oahu, in the qualifier. Honolulu’s Teal Matsueda (72) finished third to grab the final qualifying spot in the 31-player field.

The U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship is set for July 12-17 at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Md.
