Revised dates set for MIL swimming and diving championships
KIHEI — The makeup dates for the Maui Interscholastic League swimming and diving championships were finalized by league officials Monday.
Diving will be today at 4 p.m., while swimming timed finals will be Wednesday with competition starting at noon. Both will be held at Kihei Aquatic Center.
Gates to the KAC will open at 10 a.m. and warmups will begin at 10:30 on Wednesday.
The preliminaries to the event were canceled on Friday and the finals were postponed on Saturday, due to severe weather concerns.
Rebecca Venticinque, Kihei Charter School athletic coordinator and MIL swim and dive coordinator, was thankful that the Maui County Parks and Recreation Department was able to issue a new permit for Wednesday so quickly.
Venticinque said MIL executive director Joe Balangitao was instrumental in the permitting process.
“(Balangitao) worked his magic with county permitting and we have a permit for dive on Tuesday night at 4 p.m. and permit for swim championships starting competition at noon,” Venticinque said. “We are 100 percent thankful.”
The K. Mark Takai/HHSAA state swim and dive championships are set for Feb. 10-11 at the University of Hawaii.
