Kahalekai fans 15 as Warriors blank Lunas 6-0

The Maui News

Kamehameha Schools Maui pitcher Kaimi Kahalekai struck out 15 in a complete-game shutout, leading the Warriors to a 6-0 victory over Lahainaluna in a Maui Interscholastic League baseball game Thursday at Maehara Stadium in Wailuku.

Kahalekai allowed two hits, a walk and a hit batsman in his gem, which upped the Warriors’ record to 3-2. La’iku Wong led Kamehameha at the plate, going 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

The Lunas fell to 0-5.

Thursday’s other game at Maehara went down to the wire — and then some — as Maui High scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and then another in the eighth for a 4-3 walk-off win over King Kekaulike.

Haiden Sanchez picked up the win on the mound for the Sabers after throwing three scoreless innings of relief. He struck out five.

Each pitching staff surrendered just three hits apiece, with Maui High’s Jonah Richardson the only player to get two hits.

The Sabers improved to 2-0, while Na Alii fell to 3-2.
