Oklahoma redshirt senior Luke Kluver carded nine birdies en route to a 7-under 64 on Saturday that gave him a three-shot victory at the Kaanapali Classic Collegiate Invitational.

Kluver finished the three-day tournament at the Royal Kaanapali Course at 18-under 195. Mats Ege of East Tennessee State capped his Maui run with a 68 to place second at 198, and North Florida’s Robbie Higgins (68) was third, another shot back.

Kluver and Ege led their teams to the title of co-champions after both the Sooners and Buccaneers shot 271 on Sunday and finished at 42-under 810, three shots ahead of second-round leader Liberty (279). Oklahoma’s win is the program’s fourth team title on Maui, having won previously in 2015, 2019 and 2022.

“We started out like we needed to with lots of firepower and birdies,” Oklahoma coach Ryan Hybl was quoted as saying in a press release from Kaanapali Golf Courses. “While not as consistent coming down the stretch as we would have liked, we were thrilled with our team and individual victories.”

Host University of Hawaii placed ninth in the 20-team field at 16-under 836, led by Blaze Akana’s 5-under 208, which tied for 30th place in the 119-man field (one player withdrew after the second round). The Rainbow Warriors set several records with their performance in the tournament, setting program bests for single-round, 36-hole and 54-hole scores.

UH freshman Anson Cabello, a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Maui, capped his return to his home island with a 74 to finish tied for 98th place at 221. He competed as an individual.

Maui Prep alum Dillon Jonke, a freshman for Cal State Northridge who also competed as an individual, had his best round of the tournament Saturday, a 71 that put him in a tie for 94th at 220.

A fundraising campaign launched last week to benefit those affected by the Maui wildfires, including Kaanapali Golf Courses’ own associates, has surpassed $10,000 in donations, the course said Saturday.

When asked what it meant to play in honor of Maui’s wildfire victims, Oklahoma’s Hybl noted, “We have so much sorrow for the wonderful and caring people of Hawaii. We will continue to support them in any way that we can.”
