Hospital sees fewer COVID patients but census still high

The Maui News Maui Memorial Medical Center continues to experience “an extremely high census” — the longest, most sustained high census the hospital has ever experienced, according to Maui Health, which operates the hospital. Maui Health said the high census is not unique to Maui Memorial and that hospitals across the country are experiencing the same record-breaking census levels that are not related to COVID-19 patients, according to a news release. Club to host vaccine informational event

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui will hold a COVID-19 vaccination and informational event from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Lahaina, the organization announced. Participants can get their questions answered by medical professionals and/or request a vaccine, though they are not required to sign up to be vaccinated. House aims to improve public access, ethics after lawmaker bribery charges

The Maui News The state House of Representatives will take steps to improve public access and strengthen ethics training for lawmakers after a former Maui senator and former Oahu representative pleaded guilty to bribery charges on Tuesday. Two inmates test positive, 1 recovers

The Maui Community Correctional Center had 19 inmates with active COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, after two inmates tested positive and one recovered, the state Department of Public Safety reported. The department also reported 42 negative inmate test results and 14 negative employee test results Wednesday.
