Molina wins three groups’ endorsements

The Hawaii Government Employees Association, the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association and the Sierra Club have endorsed former Council Member Mike Molina in his bid to recapture his former Makawao-Haiku-Paia residency seat.That seat is held by Council Member Mike White, who will face Molina in the Nov. 4 general election. Molina served five terms on the County Council from 2001 to 2010.

Baker to discuss health care with RotaryWest and South Maui state Sen. Roz Baker, who is seeking re-election, will be speaking to the Rotary Club of Maui on health care on Maui beginning at noon Aug. 28 in the University of Hawaii Maui College Class Act dining room.Her topic will be "Health Care on Maui - Challenges and Opportunities," and she will discuss legislation passed in the last session and health issues facing the Maui community, a Rotary news release said.Baker chairs the Senate Commerce and Consumer Protection Committee and is vice chairwoman of the Senate Health Committee.In ...

Woodson endorsed by police union

State Rep. Justin Woodson has received the endorsement of the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers."Thank you for your dedication and support of police officers throughout the State of Hawaii," said Maui Chapter Chairman Barry Aoki.Woodson, who represents the 9th House District that includes Kahului, Puunene, Maui Lani and Old Sand Hills, is facing former Maui Mayor James "Kimo" Apana in the Democratic primary Saturday.

Maui County Council candidate Nikhilananda will meet with members of the public at the Makawao Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, according to an announcement from Friends of Nikhilananda.Nikhilananda is a candidate for the council's East Maui residency seat.
