Mayor Alan Arakawa will host a fundraiser next week to support his campaign to return to the Maui County Council’s Kahului residency seat. The event is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Maui Waena Intermediate School cafeteria. A suggested donation is $20. Arakawa held the Kahului council seat from 1995 to 1998 and from 2001 to 2002. Maui hotel association announces endorsements The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association is backing former Maui County Council Member Mike Victorino for mayor and a group of mostly incumbents for election to public office Nov. 6. The only council incumbent not to receive an endorsement from the group was Council Member Alika Atay. Instead, the association announced it’s supporting former Council Member Alice Lee for the Wailuku-Waihee-Waikapu residency seat. Candidates for mayor and the East Maui County Council seat will be featured during a Kihei Community Association forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Theresa Church in Kihei. Doors to the church’s Stawasz Hall will open at 6 p.m. The mayoral candidates who’ve advanced to the Nov. 6 general election are Council Member Elle Cochran and former Council Member Mike Victorino. Hotel association endorses candidates in general election

The Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association has issued its endorsements for Maui County candidates in the Nov. 6 general election. Those include former Maui County Council Member Mike Victorino for mayor and former Council Member Alice Lee for the council’s Wailuku-Waihee-Waikapu residency seat, which is now held by Council Member Alika Atay. Atay was the only council incumbent not to get a nod from the association with 700 members and nearly 40,000 employees. A rally for Maui County Council candidate Mike Molina will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Kalama Intermediate School in Makawao, according to an announcement. The event will feature food, entertainment, a classic car exhibit and door prizes. Nonperishable food items will be collected for the Maui Food Bank. Molina, a former council member and an executive assistant to Mayor Alan Arakawa, is running to return to the Makawao-Haiku-Paia residency seat being vacated by council Chairman Mike White.
